DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD LEADERS CLUB
CONSTITUTION

Name The Club�s name shall be the:-
Edinburgh Award Group Leaders of Expeditions (E.A.G.L.E.) Club

Aim The aims of the Club are:

  • By seeking to explore sources of revenue through membership fees, social events and grants, raise funds for the Club
  • Through guest speakers, specialist organisations and existing members plan entertaining and educational social events
  • Encouraging members to organise outdoor and indoor pursuits, events and meets whereby the opportunity is available for other members to take part in exciting and adventurous activities
  • By having a wide range of diverse pursuits, events and by sharing knowledge and skills encourage the development of club members
  • Through encouragement and facilitation, develop member�s skills within a framework that promotes their support of the aims of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

Membership Membership is open to anyone who wishes to promote the aims of the Club. Members shall pay an annual subscription of an amount to be determined by the Committee. The minimum age for members shall be 18 years. Members can invite guests to an event but guests may take part in no more than two events before becoming members of the Club.

Meetings The normal business of the Club shall be discussed at meetings that take place every quarter year.

Committee The affairs of the Club shall be managed by a Committee of three officer bearers, or those elected to deputise for them, who shall be elected each year from the Club members at the Annual General Meeting. These shall be:-

  • Chairperson and Deputy-Chairperson
  • Treasurer and Deputy-Treasurer
  • Secretary and Deputy- Secretary
    In addition, other members may stand as general purpose Committee Members.

    Co-option The Committee shall have the power to co-opt members to fill vacancies. Co-opted members of the Committee remain in office until the AGM when they shall be eligible for re-election.

    Quorum A quorum of the Club shall be 25% of members and shall include two of either the Chairperson, Secretary or Treasurer or their Deputy in their absence.

    Retirement All of the Committee shall retire at the AGM. Retiring members shall be eligible for re-election.

    Election Nominations to fill vacancies on the Committee may be made by members of the Club at the AGM. Each nomination must be supported by a �seconder�. The election shall then proceed by simple ballot of those members present.

    AGM The AGM of the Club shall normally be held by the end of March each year.

    Alteration to Constitution Proposed alterations shall be submitted to the Secretary prior to the AGM and be brought to the meeting where a simple majority of those present and voting shall be necessary to approve the amendment, subject to there being a quorum present.

    Finances The authority to settle accounts and payments rests with Treasurer, Chairperson or Secretary. The Treasurer and one of either the Chairperson or Secretary shall sign any cheques.
    The Treasurer shall prepare a statement of accounts for the AGM or at any other time when necessary.
    In the case of Dissolution of the Club, any funds within the Club account shall be made available to the �Friends of the Award� in Edinburgh.

    Responsibility Members and guests of the Club participating in the activities of the Club do so entirely at their own risk. Members and guests should be aware that the activities of the Club are likely to be inherently risky and carry a possibility of injury, damage or death that, by participating, members and guests accept.
    Membership of the Club implies no responsibility for safety beyond that of someone voluntarily participating in sport. Meet co-ordinators and Committee members have no additional responsibility for safety.
